Black Mirror Season 6 Release Date: Is Black Mirror Going to Come Back?

black mirror season 6

It has been a long time since fresh episodes of “Black Mirror” aired. In reality, this is the longest break the show has ever seen since its debut in 2011, even with the delay of its fifth season, as it has been over two years.

The anthology series, which takes place in the past, present, and future and examines how various forms of technology and screens — hence the title “Black Mirror” — could alter our lives, sometimes for the better and often for the worse, has received widespread critical acclaim and immense popularity. Although some episodes are unquestionably superior to others, the show’s cultural impact is apparent, and the past two years without new stories from Charlie Brooker’s mind have been challenging.

To make the wait a little more palatable, we’ve decided to examine all the available facts regarding the future of “Black Mirror” and offer reasonable assumptions about when Season 6 might be released, as well as what tales and performers it might be be be a feature.

When is Black Mirror Season 6 Coming out?

Unfortunately, neither the existence nor the release date of Season 6 of “Black Mirror” has been confirmed. Although the program has not been officially canceled, it appears to be on indefinite pause, with creator and writer Charlie Brooker warning that the horrors of 2020 may dampen public interest in the dystopian series.

Instead, Brooker wrote and produced the Netflix comedy special “Death to 2020,” which was released at the end of the year. We do not know what he has been up to this year, but it is plausible that he has been writing for a new season. However, it is also perfectly possible that he has not.

It is safe to predict, based on past production cycles, that a new season would take at least a year to develop, meaning that if writing began in January 2021 after Brooker completed “Death to 2020,” a new season of “Black Mirror” would likely not premiere until early 2022.

What is the Cast of Black Mirror Season 6?

“Black Mirror” is an anthology series, therefore each episode has a whole new cast of original characters. There are instances, notably Hannah John-Kamen, Michaela Coel, and Daniel Lapaine, in which the same actor has represented many characters in various episodes. Brooker indicated in an interview with The Independent that he has ideas for sequels to the episodes “White Bear” and “Be Right Back,” which may provide Lenora Crichlow, Hayley Atwell, and Domhnall Gleeson with the opportunity to return.

Recent seasons have cast both British and American performers, from celebrities like Miley Cyrus to lesser-known cast members, so there is no limit to who we may see in the future. Fans would want to see Bryan Cranston, Hugh Laurie, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tatiana Maslany, Rosamund Pike, Jared Leto, John Boyega, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Adam Driver, Danny DeVito, and “the entire parks and recreation cast,” according to a Reddit thread by u/DeviantDevi. In all honesty, no one is off-limits.

What Stories Will We See in Black Mirror Season 6?

Due to the nature of an anthology series and the fact that each episode of “Black Mirror” thus far has been self-contained, it is difficult to foretell what may transpire in a future season. Despite this, each episode takes place in the same universe, with Easter eggs and comparable technologies appearing throughout the various episodes.

As “Black Mirror” frequently takes place in the present, it would be intriguing to see how the pandemic we’re currently experiencing could be incorporated into the show. Could there be a story about how technology helps people stay in touch, or how it distorts reality when a person’s only view of the outside world is through a screen? How about a narrative set hundreds of years in the future during a pandemic?

If sequels to “Be Right Back” are produced, it would be fascinating to observe how the android Ash (portrayed by Gleeson) evolves. Is he still Ash as he gets new experiences over the years? Or does he decay through time, transforming into a type of abomination? For “White Bear,” we could picture a scenario in which the people being tortured by reliving the same horrible day over and over again before having their memories wiped manage to escape, similar to “The Good Place” in a deranged sense.
