9 Great Games for Your Nintendo Switch From 2023

Kaushal

Top 9 Game Nintendo Switch: Big AAA video games may not have come out much in 2022, but the Nintendo Switch had a great year. Nintendo made a lot of great games, including two great Pokémon games.

Third-party developers ported some great RPGs, and independent developers made some of my favorite sleeper hits of the year.

Card Shark

I’m a terrible liar, but Card Shark lets me act as I can cheat at cards. You’ll do the tricks themselves in different ways. For some, you’ll look at your opponent’s hand while pouring wine, and for others, you’ll shuffle the cards in a certain way to help your partner.

All of the tricks tell a story with some exciting twists, and by the end of the game, you’ll feel like you really know how to play cards.

Neon White

Andrew Webster, one of my colleagues, said that the indie game Neon White “turns you into a demon-hunting speedrunner,” and I don’t think I can say it any better.

In Neon White, you race through levels with the help of cards that give you special abilities to move and attack. I know that doesn’t make much sense at first, but trust me when I say it works.

As I tried to cut seconds off my times, I often got into a flow state. When you combine all of that with a crazy story that is mostly told in the form of a visual novel, you get, as the game’s creative director, Ben Esposito, put it, “the most video game possible.”

Nier: Automata the End of Yorha Edition

The End of Yorha Edition, which is what the Switch port of Nier: Automata is called, is a great way to play the strange but fun action RPG.

This Switch port of a game that came out in 2017 brings the game to a portable console with, from what I’ve seen in the few hours I’ve played it, very few changes for the worse. The graphics aren’t as good as on other platforms, but it still has a wide range of game styles, a deep story, and eerie music.

Nintendo Switch Sports

The best part of Nintendo Switch Sports is that it comes with another bowling game made by Nintendo. It’s a great approximation of the real thing, just like the versions I played in Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, and this new Switch version even has a cool battle royale-style mode for playing with other people.

If bowling isn’t your thing, Nintendo Switch Sports also has soccer, volleyball, tennis, badminton, chambara, and as part of a recent update, golf.

Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 Royal, one of the best role-playing games of all time, finally came out on Nintendo Switch this year. I’ve played it for about nine hours, and everything that made it great on PlayStation seems to be there. The game is full of funny characters, strange dungeons, and great music.

The graphics aren’t quite as good as they are on other platforms, but I think the fact that you can play it on a portable device makes up for that. Persona 5 Royal is a good game if you want to spend a lot of time with it. It took me more than 100 hours to play through the first time.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Arceus in Pokémon Legends made me want to catch all of them. Arceus is a spin-off of the main Pokémon series. It changes a lot of the rules that have mostly stayed the same since the beginning of the series.

The way you catch Pokémon changed a lot. I found myself sneaking up commons they didn’t know were there and throwing a pokéball at them, only to turn around and try to catch another one a few seconds later. Arceus is different from other Pokémon games in a lot of other ways, and many of those changes are for the better.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are the first mainline Pokémon games to have a huge open world. When I played Scarlet last month, I couldn’t get enough of it.

I loved going on adventures on the continent of Paldea to catch Pokémon and finish the three main storylines of the game at my own pace. And unlike most Pokémon games, the last part of this one was the best.

Instead of stomping through the Elite Four, you’ll explore an exciting and mysterious new area with secrets I won’t give away here.

Rogue Legacy 2

Rogue Legacy 2 is a fun 2D indie roguelike game in which you can play a wide variety of characters, some of whom have annoying flaws.

In addition to standard classes like knights and mages and less traditional ones like pirates, boxers, and even chefs, you’ll often have to choose between bad traits (like enemies that are hard to see) that offer some kind of bonus.

This makes each run a balancing act between risk and reward. The game just came out for Nintendo Switch, and the major Fabled Heroes update, which adds new weapons, options, bug fixes, and more, was also released at the same time.

Splatoon 3

Splatoon 3 doesn’t change much about how Splatoon is played, which I think is a good thing. In Turf War, it’s still fun to try to paint the most ground. You’ll look great while you do it if you buy some new clothes.

You’ll be jamming out the whole time you play because the music is so good. Since it came out in September, the game has already gotten a bunch of new things to do. See you on the field of battle.
