GTA 6 is getting closer, but we still have a long way to go before we can go back to Rockstar’s satirical, crime-filled world. Here are seven games like GTA to keep your inner gangster busy until that day comes.
The excitement about GTA 6 is growing by the day, especially since recent rumors say we’ll be going back to Rockstar’s version of Miami, Vice City. Over the years, many games have tried to copy Grand Theft Auto. Some of these games have been great in their own right.
Most games like GTA have their own unique features or ways to play that not only pay tribute to Rockstar’s epic story but also do their own thing well. After all, GTA isn’t the only game about crime in the city. So here are seven games like Grand Theft Auto that you should play while you wait for GTA 6.
Yakuza (series)
All of the Yakuza games are being remade and remastered so that a new generation of players can play through the long-running crime story that starts with Yakuza 0. There are also spin-offs and side games in the series, but if you like crime games, Yakuza is a good choice. You have to sit through a lot of cut scenes, but each one helps set the stage for an epic and violent adventure.
Just Cause (1-4)
Just Cause is a lot like GTA in that you can steal cars and play with guns. The basic plot is also the same. But Just Cause is more about completing military-style missions in a warzone than the GTA games, which take place in cities.
Instead of being a career criminal, you play as a mercenary who is usually sent to cause as much trouble as possible to bring down a dictatorship. Let’s start having fun!
Saints Row (Series)
People often say that the Saints Row series is a copy of Grand Theft Auto, but the series has become its own thing, with its own style of racing and third-person shooting. In the GTA universe, satire is often used to poke fun at real life.
In Saints Row, on the other hand, the whole city is a big playground for fans of open-world games. It never quite reaches the same heights as Rockstar’s popular series, but Saints Row is a great game for anyone who liked GTA.
Red Dead Redemption 2
The games in the Red Dead series take place in the Old West and have more horses than cars, but they are also made by Rockstar and have some GTA DNA. Red Dead is like Grand Theft Auto on horseback. You can rob banks, run from the law, or fight with rival gangs.

Both games also tend to have an effect on each other, with ideas from Grand Theft Auto showing up in Red Dead and vice versa. We can’t wait to see how GTA 6 makes use of systems that have been used in both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Watch Dogs (1-3)
Watch Dogs is another game series where you run around a modern city and shoot gangsters, steal cars, and try to stay away from the police. The main difference between GTA and Ubisoft’s take on the genre is that the Watch Dogs series focuses on hacking objects to complete missions.
In the first Watch Dogs game, the mechanic was pretty simple, but by the third game, it had become a smooth system that works well with driving and shooting.
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 had a rough start when it came out, but it’s now becoming the great open-world RPG we were hoping for. Cyberpunk 2077 often feels like a futuristic Grand Theft Auto, even though the tone and some game elements are different.

Before GTA 6 comes out, people who like fast car chases, exploring cities, and fast-paced gunfights should check out this game. It might be the closest thing to a next-generation GTA that you can play on your current computer.
Sleeping Dogs
Sleeping Dogs is a crime thriller that has some similarities to GTA, but its main selling point is a Kung-Fu-themed fighting system that makes GTA’s weak punches look silly.
In this open-world adventure, you can fight Triad gangsters and explore the city at your own pace. It has also become something of a cult classic in recent years. There have been rumors of a sequel for a while now, and we just hope they’re true.
So, these seven-game series should keep you busy enough until GTA 6 comes out. Check out some of the stories below for more GTA 6 news and information:
