During a significant moment in his new reign, King Charles was surrounded by family mementos.

On Thursday, the King and Prime Minister Liz Truss held the first of their weekly audiences at Buckingham Palace. King Charles, like Queen Elizabeth and previous monarchs, will attend weekly private audiences with the prime minister to address government concerns. According to the British royal family’s website, which has not been fully updated since Queen Elizabeth’s death last month to reflect the new queen, “The Queen is able to ‘advise and warn’ her ministers, including her Prime Minister, as appropriate.

Truss is seen curtsying before shaking hands with King Charles in a video posted to Twitter by ITV’s Lizzie Robinson. The clip also displays other images that are placed in the meeting area.

One of the images is a portrait from the 2018 royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Prince Harry and Meghan are flanked by members of their youthful bridal party in this photograph taken by Alexi Lubomirski at Windsor Castle following their wedding ceremony at St. George’s Chapel. Queen Elizabeth is seated next to the bride and groom beside Prince Philip, while Charles and Camilla stand behind the deceased royal couple.

Meghan is accompanied by her mother, Doria Ragland. Kate Middleton is seated with Princess Charlotte on her lap as Prince William smiles in the background.

In addition, King Charles showed a photograph of four generations of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth with her heirs Charles, Prince William, and Prince George. The photograph was taken around Christmas 2019 and released in January 2020 to commemorate the beginning of a new decade.

Photographer Ranald Mackechnie captured the image in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace. In the shot, Prince George is wearing tartan pants, while the Queen is wearing a light blue frock and clutching her distinctive pocketbook.

King Charles returned to London this week after spending time in Scotland with Queen Camilla following Queen Elizabeth’s state funeral and interment on September 19.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Tuesday that the coronation of the King will take place on May 6, 2023. “The Coronation will reflect the monarch’s current role and look to the future while remaining anchored in time-honored traditions and pomp,” the palace stated.
