The war in the Roy family goes on. Succession was picked up for a fourth season by HBO in October 2021. Succession’s renewal isn’t a surprise, since the show kept getting high ratings and good reviews for its first three seasons. According to Deadline, the first episode of Season 3 was watched by 1.4 million people across all platforms.

This is a 13 percent increase from the first episode of Season 2. The writers of the show have also made it clear that they are already making plans for Season 4.

And on June 27, about nine months after HBO said they would keep making it, they started filming Season 4. Along with the start of filming, HBO also said that Succession will be back with 10 episodes, which is more than in Season 3. and gave hints about what will happen in the next, much-anticipated book. Succession Season 4 Potential Premiere Date

HBO hasn’t said when Season 4 of Succession will start. With filming beginning in New York City on June 27, fans could expect the fourth season to come out in early 2023. Succession’s first two seasons came out in the summers of 2018 and 2019, but the third season didn’t come out until the fall of 2021 because the pandemic slowed down production.

Season 3 started shooting in November 2020, and the last scenes shot in Italy were finished in August 2021. Depending on how quickly the fourth season is made, HBO could release it as early as late 2022, but it would make more sense for it to come out in early 2023, given how quickly it is being made.

Succession Season 4 Cast

HBO also confirmed who would be back for Season 4 along with the start of production. The main cast, which includes Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun, and J. Smith-Cameron, will all come back to the family drama with high stakes.

The new season will also have supporting players like Peter Friedman, David Rasche, Fisher Stevens, Hiam Abbass, Justine Lupe, Scott Nicholson, Zo Winters, and Jeannie Berlin. More cast members will be announced soon.

Alexander Skarsgard, who plays tech mogul Lukas Matsson and is a guest star in Season 3, is not mentioned in the press release. Matsson is a threat to Waystar Royco’s future. But one thing in the official logline for Season 4 seems to confirm that Skarsgard’s character, Lukas, will have a bigger role in the episodes to come.

Succession Season 4 Plot

In the logline for the fourth season of Succession, HBO confirmed that there would be 10 episodes, which is one more than in Season 3. It also hinted that the sale of Waystar Royco to Matsson will have a “seismic” effect on the family and those close to them. As Season 3 ended, the Roy family was again split up, and this new deal may make the power-hungry siblings and their cruel father laugh even more. Fans are wondering if Season 4 will be the last season of the show because it looks like the new season will really test the family and its business empire.

In June 2021, Succession’s writer and executive producer Georgia Pritchett told The Sunday Times that the show could have up to five seasons, but it was more likely to have four. “At this point, Jesse Armstrong, who runs the show, says there will only be one more season. But that’s always the case. We’ve got a good end in sight.”

Armstrong told The New Statesman in September, “There will be a very clear moment when [the story] is over.” But in October 2021, he told Variety that he hadn’t reached that point yet. “I don’t want to say. When asked when the show might end, he said, “I don’t have a good answer.” “All I know is that the title “Succession” makes a promise, and that can’t last forever.”

He also said that he has some ideas about how he wants the series to end, but that those ideas could change. “As a showrunner, I think it’s important for me to have a pitch for my other team members, especially the writers. But it’s not immutable. We can talk about that.”

In an October interview with British GQ, Brian Cox, who plays patriarch Logan Roy on Succession, said, “I would say maybe two more [seasons], and then I think we’re done. But it depends, and it might only be one more season. It depends on how the authors feel about it. I know they’re working toward something.”

Shiv Roy is played by Sarah Snook, who seems to know less about what’s going to happen than her co-star. “We haven’t talked about Season 4 at all. I mean, there’s a part of me that would love to know, but there’s also a part of me that says, “You know, I actually really enjoy getting to know things sort of like the audience, in an episodic way,” she told Digital Spy in October.

Even so, it looks like we’ll have at least one more season to watch the Roy empire fall apart, and the first cracks are already showing. Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) and Greg (Nicholas Braun) could go to prison, Roman (Kieran Culkin) continues to show that he can’t be trusted because he’s too unpredictable and careless, and Shiv is still held back by her misguided ambition and keeps bumping into her infamously cruel father.

Also, whatever happens to Kendall in the Season 3 finale will have effects. The Roy family, which used to be impossible to break into, is getting weaker by the minute, and only time will tell who will still be standing in Season 4.
