irregulars season 2

The Irregulars’ first season aired on Netflix this week, and it’s already garnering some favorable buzz. Following an invitation from the mysterious John Watson (Royce Pierreson) to investigate crimes involving supernatural occurrences, a group of teenagers living on the streets of Victorian London accepts, with their supervisor Sherlock Holmes (Henry Lloyd-Hughes) taking full credit for their accomplishments.

To put it another way, this is a mash-up of teenage drama, paranormal mysteries, and Sherlock Holmes stories.

At first glance, many instances appear to be a walk in the park, but they quickly take a gloomy turn after that. Just when you thought Sherlock Holmes was frightening enough, The Irregulars introduces a fresh unsettling twist to the Holmes mythos, as well as strange happenings that keep viewers intrigued.

With only eight episodes remaining in season 1, the denouement was essentially complete. Along with the establishment of new relationships, a terrible loss occurred, as well as the prospect of a love triangle. While we recommend binge-watching the first season to catch up and prepare for the second, we will now discuss what viewers can expect from The Irregulars season 2, which launches on September 14.

The Irregulars Season 2: Release Date

The first season of The Irregulars has only been accessible on Netflix for a little over a week, but the company stated that the show will return for a second season at some time in the future before the first season ever launched. It looks to be suitable given the continuing popularity of the Sherlock Holmes universe.

Due to the success of Netflix’s Enola Holmes, Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock Holmes 3, which will be released later this year. Reprise an episode before its release is a risk, but one that the streaming service is willing to take.

On the other hand, given the show’s Netflix premiere, it’s unsurprising that it was renewed so swiftly. It’s reasonable for this show to follow the lead of the majority of teen dramas and science fiction series, which are regularly renewed for a second and even third season due to their popularity.

The Irregulars Season 2: Cast

It is currently unknown who will join the cast of The Irregulars for season 2. The majority of season 1’s primary cast members — Spike (McKell David), Bea (Thaddea Graham), Billy (Jojo Macari), and Jessie (Darci Shaw) — are expected to return for a second season, if not more. Despite the show’s primary focus on teenagers,

Holmes and Watson will inevitably make an appearance in some manner. According to Refinery 29, an Ipsissimus, or true psychic, appears to be on the horizon, since The Linen Man (Clarke Peters) claims in the first season that he has a child who is a “real psychic,” or Ipsissimus. Even though The Linen Man was killed at the end of the season, it is not ruled out that his spawn may return the next season to cause greater havoc.

Season 2 will see the return of the show’s creator, executive producer, and co-producer Tim Bidwell, as well as Jude Liknaitzky and co-producer Michael Ray.

  • Thaddea Graham (Bea)
  • Darci Shaw (Jessie)
  • Jojo Macari (Billy)
  • McKell David (Spike)
  • Harrison Osterfield (Leopold)
  • Royce Pierreson (John Watson)

The Irregulars Season 2: Plot

A safe assumption would be that the second season of The Irregulars will center at least substantially, if not totally, on the possibility of a new supernatural menace on the horizon. Since the Rip was discussed in season 1, it is unlikely that the narrative would be developed further.

Because Sherlock, Jessie, and Bea’s mother Alice (Eileen O’Higgins) all walked through The Rip together, it is unknown how Sherlock will return or whether the girls will ever see their mother again.

Because The Rip was responsible for a slew of strange occurrences throughout London, it’s unknown where the new threat would come from, but a successful season would be incomplete without one.

Whether or if the threat comes from another direction, it looks that Sherlock and Alice’s story is far from over and that they will return to save — or ruin — the day.

Netflix Cancelled the Irregulars

Netflix announced the cancellation of The Irregulars on May 4, 2021, but did not explain. The decision came around six weeks after the series’ March 26 premiere, which corresponds to the streaming service’s customary announcement timeline.

Technically, though, Netflix never officially announced the renewal of The Irregulars. Most likely, there are two primary reasons for The Irregulars’ cancellation before a second installment: either the show’s viewership was insufficient, or scheduling issues forced the show’s cancellation.

Why Netflix Didn’t Renew the Irregulars for Season 2

Assuming that all of the major cast members desired to continue with The Irregulars season 2, Netflix may have canceled the series due to its lack of potential as a multi-season blockbuster.

While the first part does conclude with a resolution of the issue and the characters prepping for new contracts with Mr. Watson, streaming data over several weeks suggests that locked-down viewers were not fully committed to The Irregulars’ eight-episode plot. It’s hard to know for certain why Netflix terminated The Irregulars, as the streaming giant uses a complicated algorithm and data points to assess “value,” none of which are made public.

As industry standards continue to shift throughout the COVID-19 period, Netflix may have chosen to be more selective in terms of funding.

While the termination of The Irregulars season 2 may come as a shock to fans, there is precedent at Netflix. Tuca & Bertie was canceled after season one by the streaming service (probably due to low viewership), while the popular science fiction shows The OA was canceled after season two, leaving fans with an unsolved cliffhanger.

Even the popular Netflix show Mindhunter appears to have been canceled after two seasons, owing to scheduling conflicts with creator David Fincher. With regards to The Irregulars, the Netflix show received favorable reviews from critics but suffered a big decline in viewing numbers following its original debut.

The Irregulars Season 2: Is There a Trailer?

While it may seem self-evident, there is currently no season 2 trailer available. However, once one is released, you will be the first to learn about it.
