The Sea Beast is an epic Netflix adventure film about Jacob Holland, a famed sea monster hunter whose life is flipped upside down when a young girl named Maisie Brumble stows away on his ship and makes an odd friend in a fearsome sea monster.
Chris Williams, who has worked on Moana, Big Hero 6, and Bolt, is directing this animated marine adventure.
“The Sea Beast is the kind of story I’ve always wanted to take on,” he told Variety(opens in new tab). It’s a high-adventure story in which our hero departs the known world and sets sail into unknown waters. It just so happens that I’m doing the same thing.”
According to Variety, The Sea Beast was also inspired by the fantastic animals seen on nautical maps from the 16th and early 17th centuries.
