Tony Awards 2022

After two years of Broadway disruptions due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the 75th annual Tony Awards were staged on Sunday night to recognize the best performances in the theatre industry. Ariana DeBose, the winner of the Academy Award and nominee for the Tony Award, hosted the ceremony from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Best Musical and Best Book for a Musical was awarded to “A Strange Loop,” which entered the evening with the most nominations of any play, eleven. Jennifer Hudson, one of the show’s producers, received the Tony Award for Best Musical, making her the seventeenth individual to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award (EGOT).

Hudson has received an Oscar in 2007 for her performance in “Dreamgirls,” a Daytime Emmy in 2021, and two Grammy Awards, one for Best R&B Album in 2009 and another for Best Musical Theater Album in 2017.
