Who Is Jack Teixeira?
The Washington Post reported that Teixeira, currently the prime suspect in the case, came from a military family. He was mobilized for federal active duty.
According to the AP, he was stationed at Otis Air National Guard Base in Massachusetts and detailed to an Air Force intelligence unit.
Jack Teixeira worked as an IT specialist and he was responsible for the military’s communications network.
His work meant he had a high-level security clearance to access military communications networks, a defense official told the AP, helping to explain how he had access to classified documents.
What Was The Reason Behind Arresting Him?
Attorney General Merrick Garland confirmed on Thursday, “Teixeira was arrested in connection with not having official permission of removal, transmission, and retention and of classified national defense information.”
The FBI said in a statement Thursday that the arrest took place at a residence in North Dayton, Massachusetts.
As CNN reports, Teixeira was monitored for several days prior to her arrest, which took place outside her mother’s home.
How Was The Document Leaked?
The Washington Post reported earlier this week that in a private chat room called “Thug Shaker Central” on the gamer-friendly platform Discord, a man known only as “OG” initially recruited about two dozen acquaintances — mostly men and boys. Started sharing documents with.
Teixeira, who was later identified as having done something wrong, spent years posting memes about the game on stage and guns, according to the AP.
He wanted to impress the other participants and teach them “about real warfare” and saw himself as an unofficial leader of the group, members told The New York Times.
The Washington Post, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that the poster, who used multiple online handles including “Jack the Ripper” and “ExcaliburFect”, uploaded images of the documents to Discord servers.
Members of the Discord group also posted a video of Teixeira “hurling racist and anti-Semitic slurs before firing a rifle.”
Zoom in: According to a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) interview in December with another side disagreement user, a man later identified as Teixeira began posting classified information to the social media server, according to the affidavit.
While the affidavit did not clearly name the platform, other media outlets identified it as Discord.
The affidavit said that Teixeira allegedly first began posting government information as “paragraphs of text,” but that around January he began posting photos of documents that contained “classification markings.” appeared.
The Discord user told the FBI that he had multiple conversations over video chat, voice calls, and the platform’s chat function with a server administrator who “calls himself ‘Jack’. Over voice calls, video chat, and other chat platform functions.
The user said the administrator told him he was worried he might get caught transcribing documents at work, so he started taking them home and taking pictures of them.
According to the affidavit, The “Jack” user said that he lives in Massachusetts, and claimed he was in the United States (US) Air National Guard.

How Was Teixeira Located?
According to the affidavit, on 12 April, Disagreement provided the FBI with all records that hold the customer information about the server’s administrator.
Those records show Teixeira’s home address and used his real name for the billing information associated with his account.
A user the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) interviewed also identified Teixeira as the server administrator and it’s based on a registry of motor vehicle photos.
An unnamed US government agency that may be monitoring “certain searches performed on its classified networks” found that Teixeira had “used his government computer to search classified intelligence reporting for the word ‘leak’,” as per the affidavit.
It was believed that Teixeira was doing this to monitor the intelligence community’s assessment of who was behind the document leak.
It is not yet clear what punishment Teixeira will face if convicted. It depends on whether he will serve the sentence concurrently or consecutively as per each AP.
ABC News reported that the collective sentence against Teixeira could be up to 15 years in prison.
