The Deliverance on Netflix

Netflix is currently filming Lee Daniels’s highly anticipated next movie, The Deliverance (formerly known as The Deliverance), which is based on the haunting story of Latoya Ammons and her family that was widely reported in the US in 2014.

The horror movie will be directed by Lee Daniels, who rewrote the script from earlier versions. The movies Empire, Star, Good People, and The United States vs. Billie Holiday all feature him. People say that Netflix paid $65M for the rights to show the movie.

The movie was called Demon House until July 2022, but it is now called The Deliverance, probably to avoid confusion with a 2018 movie with the same name.

Todd Crites and Jackson Nguyen of Turn Left Productions are also producing, and Greg Renker and Gregoire Gensollen are Executive Producers. Along with Daniels, Elijah Bynum and David Coggeshall are writing the script for the movie.

What’s the Netflix Release Date for the Deliverance?

Netflix hasn’t said when The Deliverance will be available, but since filming started in June 2022, the movie will likely be available in the first half of 2023.

What’s the Plot of the Deliverance?

The thriller is based on the real-life story of Latoya Ammons and her family, whose permission allowed this movie to be made. They say that they have been possessed by a demon for over two years and counting. Ammons and her family have made headlines all over the world because of what they said. The Department of Child Services (DCS), the Gary (Indiana) Police Department, and hospital staff all saw and wrote down what they said.

Over two years ago, strange things started happening in her home, like swarms of flies around her porch in the winter and strange creaking sounds in her basement. As things went on, her oldest daughter started floating above her bed by accident, and the medical staff saw her middle son moving backward on the floor, the wall, and the ceiling.

According to Relativity, the DCS case manager saw her youngest son growling with his eyes rolled back and his teeth showing while putting his hands around his older brother’s throat. He didn’t remember what happened. The strange things that were happening could not be explained or fixed by the first psychological tests and exorcism attempts.

Who is Cast in the Deliverance?

Latoya Ammons is the main character in this story, and singer-songwriter Andra Day will play her. People think that her character’s name has been changed to Ebony.

This is Day’s second big movie after The United States vs. Billie Holiday, in which she played the legendary four-time Grammy winner Billie Holiday.

Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures, The Help) was supposed to join Day at first, but she was replaced later (more on this in a second).

The first announcement also included Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, The Wife), Rob Morgan (Stranger Things, Daredevil), Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things), and Aunjanue Ellis (King Richard, Lovecraft Country).

Deadline said in April 2022 that Mo’Nique would be replacing Octavia Spencer in the movie. This was the actress’s first project with Lee Daniels since the movie Precious, which came out in 2009. During her public fight with Netflix over discrimination, which was settled in June 2022, she was cast in the show.

In July 2022, we found out about even more people who would be in The Deliverance.

  • Omar Epps (Fatal AffairTraffik)
  • Miss Lawrence (Bros, The United States vs. Billie Holiday)
  • Demi Singleton (King RichardGodfather of Harlem)
  • Anthony B. Jenkins (Chicago Med, The Wonder Years)
