Lakshmi

The fifth season of Cobra Kai will debut on Netflix worldwide in September 2022. Here’s an up-to-date look at everything we know about Cobra Kai’s fifth season, including what to expect, who will star, trailers, first-look screenshots, and more.

Cobra Kai has become one of the most successful Netflix continuations, comparable to Lucifer and Money Heist. The series already had a large and devoted fan base from its time as a YouTube Red/Original series, but its popularity skyrocketed when it moved to Netflix.

It’s now 2022, and we’re eagerly anticipating the fifth season, so here’s everything we know so far:

When is the Cobra Kai Season 5 Release Date on Netflix?

Netflix has confirmed that the fifth season of Cobra Kai will premiere on September 9, 2022.

The date was announced during a live event at Netflix’s Los Angeles-based Netflix is a Joke festival. On May 5, 2022, a special performance for Cobra Kai was held at the Microsoft Theater.

The majority of the cast was present and engaged in fun and games with the audience, as well as teasing certain elements of season 5 and revealing an alternate ending for season 4. It was an overall enjoyable evening. Here you can locate someone’s recording of the event.

Importantly for Cobra Kai fans, the release date for season 5 and several new images from the upcoming season were revealed:

Cobra Kai Season 5 Cast

The trailer revealed that certain characters will return. Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence will return, so Ralph Macchio and William Zabka will also return. Courtney Henggeler returns as Amanda LaRusso, and Vanessa Rubio reprises her role as Carmen Diaz.

Big bad Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) will play a significant role in season 5, and John Kreese (Martin Kove) will likely return as well (after a potential stint in prison, that is – more on that in a moment).

The final moments of season 4 also confirmed the return of a surprise cast member: Yuji Okumoto reprises his role as Chozen, which he originated in The Karate Kid 2 in season 3.

As for the younger cast, Xolo Mariduea reprises his role as Miguel Diaz, Mary Mouser reprises her role as Samantha LaRusso, Tanner Buchanan reprises his role as Robby Keene, and Peyton List reprises his role as Tory.

Jacob Bertrand as Hawk, Gianni DeCenzo as Demetri Alexopoulos, Peyton List as Tory Nichols, Joe Seo as Kyler Park, Selah Austria as Piper, Khalil Everage as Chris, Aedin Mincks as Mitch, Hannah Kepple as Moon, Owen Morgan as Bert, and Nathaniel Oh as Nate have either been confirmed or are likely to return in some capacity.

Griffin Santopietro will return as Anthony LaRusso, and Dallas Young will reprise his role as Kenny Payne, according to Deadline. Young has also been promoted to series regular.

According to Deadline, Alicia Hannah-Kim has joined the cast as Kim Da-Eun, a South Korean sensei integral to Silver’s expansion plans for Cobra Kai. Ominous.

It remains to be seen if Paul Walter Hauser will reprise his role as Stingray following his surprise appearance in season 4, but he has hinted to ComicBook.com that his character’s story isn’t over yet: “Stingray may be done with the past, but the past is not done with Stingray,” I will conclude.

Cobra Kai Season 5 Plot

Cobra Kai underwent a major paradigm shift in Season 4, and Season 5 will deal with the repercussions. Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang (or Miyagi-Fang) combined forces were insufficient to defeat Cobra Kai at the All Valley. Cobra Kai won both the girls’ division and the overall prize. Terry Silver has pledged to open new dojos throughout the entire Valley in the wake of his team’s victory, which will make fighting back against the Cobra Kais next season much more difficult.

And there will be conflict. Daniel LaRusso is still intent on bringing down Cobra Kai despite the agreement to stop teaching karate if Miyagi-Do or Eagle Fang fails to win the tournament. This time, he has enlisted Chozen’s assistance. Given that Chozen taught Daniel a secret, highly effective Miyagi-Do technique the last time they met, we can expect the former antagonist to have more tricks up his sleeve in the new season. As alluded to in the trailer, it is also likely that Silver and the Cobra Kais will face significant challenges as a result of their alliance.

Regarding the character’s return, co-creator Jon Hurwitz told GamesRadar+, “Chozen is one of our favorite characters in the franchise.” “When Yuji [Okumoto] returned in the third season, the scenes he shared with Ralph [Macchio] were some of our favorites, both from a karate and a comedy standpoint. We adore this dynamic and what he brings to the table.

And beyond that, he has demons and things he is working through in his life. Therefore, he is a fully realized character with unfinished business, and what better time for him to come to America and join the fight in the Valley than when Terry Silver is on top? Because everyone knows that Terry Silver is a formidable opponent… If Cobra Kai is going to have Terry Silver on that side, bringing in Chozen, who has a history of fighting to the death and is fearless, and who appears to be more skilled and a greater karate threat than Daniel, seemed like a good idea for season 5.”

Regarding John Kreese, he is currently irrelevant. After the season, Silver orchestrated the arrest of his old friend by framing Kreese for the brutal beating Silver himself inflicted on Stingray. With Kreese seemingly destined for prison, it is impossible to predict how his season will play out.

However, he has proven to be difficult to defeat in the past, so do not write him off just yet. How he reacts to being betrayed by Silver and to Silver threatening his former star pupil Johnny Lawrence is unknown.

Meanwhile, Johnny is on his trail of Miguel. Both characters will travel to Mexico, where Miguel has traveled in search of his father. A potential snag in Johnny’s plan to make amends with Miguel is the fact that he appears to be mending fences with his son Robby Keene.

Robby is accompanying Johnny on his trip south of the border, but things are not going swimmingly between him and Miguel. However, this could bring all three characters one step closer to finally erasing all ill will between them.

Less certain is the future of the students of Miyagi-Do, Eagle Fang, and Cobra Kai. Daniel has no intention of closing his dojo, so it is safe to assume that the Miyagi-Do children will continue to practice karate. Cobra Kai is also expanding, but it appears that they may lose some students in season 5.

After All Valley champion Tory Nichols overheard a conversation that proved the tournament was rigged in Cobra Kai’s favor, she may be on the verge of defecting from the dojo, especially as she and Amanda LaRusso grew closer throughout the season.

Eagle Fang will likely continue training at Miyagi-Do, given that Johnny will be in Mexico for at least a portion of the season. Whether any of the children decide to honor the agreement with Cobra Kai and cease all karate training is uncertain.

There is no doubt that the fifth season will be action-packed. “We’ve just finished filming season 5. And we ended up in a situation where the season five finale is, I wouldn’t say bigger, but there is a great deal of action “Hayden Schlossberg, co-creator, told GamesRadar+.

“Thus, it has become this way. And we do anticipate future seasons; we’re crossing our fingers that we can continue beyond season five, as we did not intend for that to be the finale “He proceeds. “We have another planned. There are still some of our largest fireworks and cannons remaining.

So we are aware that we have some large, epic plans in the works. The question then becomes, “Okay, how do you top that every season?” As long as it comes from a place of character, fans will enjoy it, and we don’t want it to become merely a spectacle devoid of substance. Thus, this is the overarching objective.”

Hurwitz has also teased major events in the finale via Twitter (opens in new tab). “The season five finale is completely insane and unlike any of our previous finales. We all enjoy it “He composed.

If you’re on the lookout for cameos from the greater Karate Kid universe, you might find some. Hurwitz told Deadline, “There’s a lot of insanity; if you’re a fan of the franchise, maybe some familiar faces show up, maybe not; there will be a lot of karate” (opens in new tab).

Cobra Kai Season 5 Trailer

The first trailer for season 5 of Cobra Kai has been released, and it can be viewed above.

It follows the 51st All Valley Karate Championship, a competition in which the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang dojos were forced to close following Tory and Cobra Kai’s controversial victory in the finals.

Terry Silver’s plans to franchise the dojo throughout the valley are hinted at in the trailer, but Daniel LaRusso is fighting back; he has turned to his former rival Chozen for assistance in taking the fight back to Silver, as hinted in the season 4 finale.

The fifth season of Cobra Kai is not just about karate shenanigans in Los Angeles, however. At the end of the fourth season, Miguel ran away from home to find his father. Johnny is seen traveling south with his son, Robby, to find Miguel. It does not appear that Robby and Miguel have yet buried the hatchet…

Additionally, this is not the only trailer on its way. Co-creator Jon Hurwitz teased the next glimpse of the show via Twitter: “I’m obsessed with Cobra Kai S5 after watching the trailer. Sets the tone perfectly without revealing any surprises. This film feels like a different (but similar) type of 1980s film. The 9th of September cannot come soon enough!” Expect then an epic trailer.

Where Could Cobra Kai Season Five Take Its Heroes? (and Villains, Too.)

According to the above Season Five preview, there will be another road trip reminiscent of The Karate Kid II, but with Johnny and Robby instead of Daniel and Mr. Miyagi. The father and son will travel to Mexico in search of Miguel, while Miguel searches for his father.

(Does Miguel’s dad know karate? Probably!) The producers of Cobra Kai are doing everything possible to assure us that the upcoming season will be worth the wait. Jon Hurwitz told Deadline at the PGA Awards, “There’s a lot of insanity; if you’re a fan of the franchise, maybe some familiar faces show up, maybe not; there will be a lot of karate.”

Let’s discuss these recognizable faces. Who’s betting on The Karate Kid Part III villain Mike Barnes being Miguel’s father? Barnes’s return has been confirmed, at least. If you recall, Terry Silver hired Barnes to kick Daniel LaRusso’s derriere and destroy Mr. Miyagi’s bonsai trees in the reviled Karate Kid III, but our man ultimately prevailed, as usual. Now, it’s a safe bet that Silver will contact his old ally to wreak havoc in the Valley and possibly deliver a blow (or two) to LaRusso, just as he did in the past.

As for Silver, he has reverted to his manic-aggressive ’80s self and appears to be the series’ final antagonist, aiming to transform the entire state of California into a Cobra Kai dojo. The Season Five trailer and photos reveal that Daniel and his archenemy Chozen will do everything they can to stop Silver and Barnes.

Perhaps Julie Pierce, played by Hilary Swank in The Next Karate Kid, will finally arrive to put an end to the insanity. Assume that whatever allegiances they had after Season Four, they will switch sides by the end of the upcoming episodes. This is how Cobra Kai operates.

What plans does Cobra Kai have beyond its fifth season? It is difficult to tell. The three producers of the series have long hinted at spinoffs set in the Karate Kid universe, which they call the Miyagi-verse. On top of our wishlist is a Mr. Miyagi origin story set in Okinawa. In addition, Hayden Schlossberg stated in the PGA interview, “We have a goal in mind.” We do not know how many seasons it takes to get there.

We’re having a great time making it… If we tire of it, we’ll stop before then; we already have a few more seasons planned.” The series could end while it is still immensely popular, or it could continue as long as William Zabka and Ralph Macchio are willing to reprise their iconic 1980s roles. Season 43 of Cobra Kai will not feature Miguel, age 55, mentoring a new generation of fighters, is that correct?
