He received his first cinematic part in Felicity Huffman’s independent film “Erie.” He started performing in several shows that were either not picked up by networks or were canceled after a few episodes. In 1996, he shot a television pilot for CBS with Kevin Pollak and Lucy Webb, but it was not picked up. He was in another pilot for NBC’s “The Mike O’Malley Show” a few years later, but it was canceled after only two episodes.
In the year 2000, Arnett had the worst year of his life, claiming that he “drank those years away” as a result of not being able to find work.
