Russell’s lawyer, Emory Anthony, submitted the statement to Derzis before of a second scheduled encounter with investigators, according to Derzis. “There was no kidnapping on Thursday, July 13, 2023,” Anthony explained. “My client did not see a baby on the roadside.” When my client was reported missing, she did not leave the Hoover area.”

 

Russell, according to Anthony, wanted to “apologize for her actions to this community, the volunteers who were searching for her, the Hoover police department, and other agencies, as well as her friends and family.” Finally, he said, “We ask for your prayers for Carlee as she addresses her issues and attempts to move forward while understanding that she made a mistake in this matter.”
